Book vs. Movie Review

March 28, 2022 by What to Watch Guide 1 Comment

Encourage your kids to read, write, and observe with this printable – Book vs. Movie Review. Make a movie night and read a book – great activities you can do together! Have fun!

I remember taking a college course called something like “Intro to Fiction and Film.” We would read the book and then watch the movie in class. Then, we’d have discussions about the similarities and differences.

Who would have thought that “movies based on books” would be a category on Netflix …15 years later!

This Book vs. Movie Review Set includes:
4 page P D F file:
– a Cover Page
– Book vs. Movie – General information
– Book vs. Movie – the Story
– Book and Movie – Comparison

Supplies:

My favorite supplies include printer paper, or cardstock, markers, pencils, colored pencils, and a good printer. By keeping these on hand you will be well on your way to creating lapbooks with your kids. Offer some Microwave Popcorn as a post-assignment treat.

What is a Book vs. Movie Review?

Everyone knows that a book's author often lays out information differently than in the movie version. Movie adaptations can add fictionalized information to the story or leave out characters and complete storylines.

So, in this exercise, you are going to read the book and then watch the movie. Then, you'll complete this Book vs. Movie Review and if you'd like, you can also have discussions about the similarities and differences.

Why complete a Book vs. Movie Review?

The review provides a place for students to record the information they have learned in the book and the movie in a more visually appealing and engaging manner. This process applies memory exercises and requires critical thinking.

“I absolutely love sharing movies with my kids as a way to teach them valuable lessons. It's like this awesome bonding experience where we all snuggle up on the couch with some popcorn, and I get to see their little faces light up with curiosity. Whether it's a classic with timeless morals or a new animated flick with hidden gems of wisdom, it's a fantastic way to impart important life lessons in a fun and engaging way. Plus, the post-movie discussions are priceless – hearing their take on the characters and the story adds a whole new dimension to our family time.” –a Homeschooling parent
