About Raki Wright

Raki's passion for film, combined with her expertise in the rapidly evolving landscape of streaming services, has made What to Watch Guide a trusted resource for anyone looking for their next great watch.

My love for TV shows and movies started early, and the day I turned 16, I landed my first job at the movie theater in our local mall. Positioned in the heart of the action, it was an exciting place to work and learn about the behind-the-scenes workings of the film industry. I quickly discovered that theaters don’t earn income from ticket sales but rely on concessions and lobby attractions—a fascinating glimpse into how the entertainment business operates.

At the theater, I wore many hats, from selling tickets to working the concession stand and taking tickets at the door. This experience sparked my passion for sharing stories and exploring the magic of film and television. Years later, in 2007, I partnered with movie industry professionals on projects like “trailer checks,” where I tracked which trailers were shown before features. These experiences, combined with a lifelong love for entertainment, shaped the unique perspective I bring to my site, where I celebrate the stories that captivate audiences around the world.

From 2014 until 2017, Raki served on the Netflix Stream Team as a brand ambassador. This program provided ambassadors with Netflix Originals' set visits, early access to Netflix original series, surprise mailers and swag, Meet and Greet opportunities with Netflix execs (and authors) at Netflix HQ.

When the Stream Team ended, I decided that I wanted to continue creating content for my family and others searching for the same information.

Of course, I watch a lot of TV and movies. We have traditional cable and just about every streaming subscription available! How else would I be able to let you know what to watch and stay in the know?

My Netflix faves are Firefly Lane, Virgin River, Madam Secretary, and Painkillers. On Starz, I'm bingeing the Power Universe: Power, Power Book II: Ghost, Power Book III: Raising Kanan, and then I'll watch Power Book IV: Force.
