Cars Owned By Your Favorite Actors

June 20, 2022 by Casey Cartwright 3 Comments

Movies have made plenty of cars famous, from Back to the Future’s Delorean to the GT40 in Ford v Ferrari.

Movie stars themselves are famous for their personal auto collections as well as for the beauties they drive onscreen. The real-life cars of the rich and famous prove that actors, speed, and the silver screen are forever linked.

Cars Owned By Your Favorite Actors

Matthew McConaughey

McConaughey owns a classic 1981 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 and a 1971 Corvette Stingray convertible, but he has also been collecting SUVs of late to ferry around his three kids. After his role as 2011’s The Lincoln Lawyer, he signed on in real life as Lincoln’s pitchman. His 2014 ads and cryptic lines of poetry inspired parodies—and a 13 percent increase in sales.

Nicolas Cage

His leading lady in the 2000 cult hit Gone in 60 Seconds wasn’t costar Angelina Jolie—it was Eleanor, a highly customized 1967 Shelby GT500. It’s now part of his collection of at least 20 luxury cars, which is heavy on Lamborghinis, Rolls Royces, Ferraris, and Bugattis.

George Clooney

The actor is a throwback to classic cinema and classic cars; his red 1958 Chevy Corvette was a hand-me-down from his dad. His concern about global warming prompted his investment in a lithium battery-run Tango, one of only 21 in existence. It’s just eight and a half feet long, 39 inches wide, and a dream to park.

Arnold Schwarzenegger

The action star and former state governor is often spotted running errands in his treasured vehicles: three Humvees in different colors, three Bentleys, a Tesla, a Dodge Charger, an antique military Jeep, and a classic Studebaker-style, 60s-era Excalibur.

He once listed his Mercedes-Benz Unimog, a multipurpose monster truck, on eBay with a $350,000 “buy it now” price.

Harrison Ford

With a $300 million fortune, Ford indulges himself with a collection of airplanes, motorcycles, and cars. He’s got a Tesla, a Jaguar XK-140, several BMWs and Mercedes, and a 1966 Austin Healey he likes to drive with the top down.

Icons such as James Dean, Paul Newman, and Steve McQueen garnered publicity for their race cars, burnishing their images as fearless leading men. “Herbie” the Volkswagen Bug has given way to the auto-worshipping Fast & Furious series.

Cars have long been superstars on the silver screen, and the cars of the rich and the famous in real life aren’t far behind.

Do actors use their own cars?

Typically, the automobile is mounted on a low-riding trailer (cart/dolly) hauled by another vehicle that houses the filming team and equipment. As a result, the actor is not required to steer at all.
