About The Great Gatsby

The Great Gatsby follows would-be writer Nick Carraway (Tobey Maguire) as he leaves the Midwest and comes to New York City in the spring of 1922, an era of loosening morals, glittering jazz, bootleg kings, and sky-rocketing stocks.

Chasing his own American Dream, Nick lands next door to a mysterious, party-giving millionaire, Jay Gatsby (Leonardo DiCaprio), across the bay from his cousin.

Why is it called The Great Gatsby?

The significance of the Jay Gatsby character is indicated by the book's title, “The Great Gatsby.” Gatsby is a delusional visionary who fulfills the American dream and uses it to win over his beloved. To emphasize Gatsby's fame in the novel, the author chooses to place the adjective “Great” before Gatsby.
