Interracial relationships have come a long way in the last 55 years including a landmark Supreme Court case. June 12th marks National Loving Day, commemorating the historic 1967 U.S. Supreme Court decision. Loving v. Virginia, a Supreme Court decision that threw down anti-miscegenation statutes, or laws barring interracial marriages, in 16 states.

To mark the occasion, here's a look back at 13 Loving Day Movies which focused on interracial relationships.

What is Loving Day?

The United States celebrates National Loving Day on June 12, and the name is intriguing.

The holiday is, of course, about spreading love, but it also honors Mildred and Richard Loving, who fought against laws that prohibited them and others from marrying interracially.

How do you celebrate Loving Day?

People are encouraged to hold parties in which the case and its modern-day legacy are discussed, both in smaller settings such as living rooms and backyards and in larger gatherings. Ken Tanabe is credited with coming up with the concept of Loving Day.

Where can I watch the Loving movie?

The loving movie is available on HBO Max. The loving movie is also available on Netflix.

Is Loving a real story?

The oscar-nominated film Loving, tells the true story of an interracial couple living in the southern states of the US in the 1960s and their fight to marry.

Is Loving a good movie?

It's a complex, subtle, and quiet performance that gains power through believability rather than the showiness that we've come to expect from films like this one. “Loving” contains few surprises.

It's a fairly straightforward drama, so it's unlikely to be exciting enough for some viewers.

What happens in Loving?

Richard and Mildred meet in Virginia and marry in Washington, D.C. because interracial marriage is still illegal in their state The local sheriff arrests the two after receiving an anonymous tip, and the court orders them to leave the state for at least 25 years in order to avoid jail time. Mildred passed away in 2008.
