Best Movies To Indulge Your Inner Foodie

May 24, 2023 by Casey Cartwright 4 Comments

There’s nothing better than settling down for a good movie and a good meal at the end of a long day. When coupled together, these two elements make for a very cozy and enjoyable evening – with some great foodie movies.

Hollywood moguls have capitalized on this sensation as well by creating an entire sub-genre of films entirely dedicated to the appreciation of delicious food and drinks. This guide to some of the best movies to indulge your inner foodie will make you eager to try your hand in the kitchen.

And just as rich chardonnay pairs perfectly with a tender filet mignon, your food-inspired film festival can benefit from the addition of a few wine-inspired movies as well.

Ratatouille

Anyone can appreciate a delicious meal, regardless of age, background, or even species, as this family-friendly film clearly shows. Ratatouille is an animated film straight from the brilliant minds at Disney and Pixar Studios.

The overarching message in this film is that anyone can cook, even a scrappy little rat from the sewers of Paris. Though animated, the dishes in this movie still manage to look completely realistic and mouth-watering.

Julie & Julia

Julia Child’s first cookbook reached national acclaim in the early 1960s, though not without a few bumps in the road first. This film follows the culinary journeys of Julia Child and Julie Powell, a writer who uses her hobby of cooking as a way to find some sense of normalcy in post-9/11 New York City.

Cooking a delicious meal would not be possible without a few nicks, burns, and mishaps along the way, as Julie & Julia is quick to point out. However, the characters quickly learn that, even if your souffle falls or your bread burns, you can always start over to create a delicious meal.

Notable dishes: Tomato bruschetta, chocolate cream pie, and beef bourguignon

Food trucks have become increasingly popular in recent years, particularly in big cities. Chef follows Carl Casper as he makes the transition from the head chef at a high-end L.A. restaurant to the full-time owner of a small food truck.

Family and food are at the forefront of this film. Through the process of opening his food truck, Casper reexamines his relationship with the food business and recognizes that dishes always taste better when you make them with love.

Notable dishes: Pasta Aglio e Olio and mojo pork Cubanos, a specialty of this film’s fictional food truck
