Firefighting Movies That All Firefighters Will Love

October 8, 2022 by Casey Cartwright 1 Comment

The entertainment industry sure has a way of dramatizing some professions; after all, how else would NBC fill its primetime lineup?

Firefighting is one of those fields the industry uses, which may excite those who work as public servants. These are some firefighting movies that all firefighters will love.

Firestorm

The “it’s so bad, it’s good” category is Firestorm. Initially, this film was going to star Sylvester Stallone, but there was an audible that saw NFL Hall of Fame linebacker, Howie Long, take the leading role. Long’s career was short-lived because this was his last time on the silver screen.

Always

Every director will have some under-the-radar gems that slip by the public. Always is a film that stars Richard Dreyfuss as a firefighting ghost that helps a probie who needs some guidance. In Audrey Hepburn’s final acting credit, Steven Spielberg was behind the lens, directing the legendary actress.

Hellfighters

Hellfighters

Is there anything more masculine than John Wayne putting out oil fires? Nevertheless, Hellfighters was one of the first films you could consider a disaster movie, even though his character’s marriage and life at home were focal points.

Ladder 49

This movie put its two main actors on separate paths. Its leading man, John Travolta, went off the deep end by starring in 0 percent rated Rotten Tomatoes movies.

Meanwhile, its supporting actor, Joaquin Phoenix, went on to receive multiple nominations and wins for his superb performances in films like Walk the Line, Her, and Joker.

Ladder 49 is an excellent film to watch for any curious individual who may want to put on the hat, gloves, and coat to become a firefighter. It focuses more on day-to-day life rather than the perfectly staged fires the movie industry loves showing off.

Frequency

One of the hidden gems of the early 2000s was Frequency, which starred Dennis Quaid and Jim Caviezel. Quaid’s character ends up dying in a fire in the late ’60s, but Caviezel can get in contact with him from the same radio his dad uses.

Many other things make up the story, including a serial killer and the Mets winning the World Series. However, its central theme of being a son who misses his dad is certainly something everyone can empathize with.

The Towering Inferno

Towering Inferno

A trailblazer of sorts, The Towering Inferno set the bar for all future disaster films. It received several Academy Awards nominations between its captivating action scenes and impressive special effects, including a Best Picture nod.

Only the Brave

  • Geoff Stults, Andie Macdowell, Josh Brolin (Actors)

Only the Brave

Although it was a box office flop, Only the Brave is the best movie that involves firefighting. After JK Simmons bossed him around in Drumline, Miles Teller still needed some guidance from Thanos himself, Josh Brolin, on putting out forest fires.

The exhilarating action and poignant story helped this movie gain notoriety among the masses, even if no one originally went to see it in the theaters.

These firefighting movies that all firefighters will love are great for some entertainment and feeling the rush inside your bones of fighting fires, without the fictionality one would see in Backdraft. Sorry, Kurt Russell.
