The Ides of March is based on a play by Beau Willimon (who also produced the American version of House of Cards). It is titled after the date of Julius Caesar's assassination. It was also the day when the ancient Romans paid off all their debts. It's easy to see why Clooney chose this title for his picture, with all of the backstabbing and score-settling on display.
