All these films are beautifully written and well-acted, so you can’t go wrong with any of them.

Best Netflix Original Movies of 2019

Marriage Story

Marriage Story is a gripping film that tells the story of Charlie and Nicole, a couple going through a bitter divorce. Written and directed by Noah Baumbach, the movie will stay with you long after the end credits roll.

The film doesn’t gloss over how painful and complicated getting a divorce is. The audience sees how much Charlie (played by Adam Driver) and Nicole (played by Scarlett Johansson) struggle with the painful decision to end their marriage.

The film also touches on the dramatic impact divorce has on the children involved. Marriage Story brings to life so many issues that millions of people face every day.

The Irishman

The Irishman is a true masterpiece. The film has a stellar cast, including powerhouses such as Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.

One of the greatest filmmakers of all time, Martin Scorsese, also directed the movie. This piece of cinema tells the story of union leader Jimmy Hoffa from the 1950s through the 1980s.

Yes, the movie does run over three hours long, but the riveting performances will keep anyone captivated the entire time. It’s a story of corruption and the lengths people will go to in order to keep their power.

It raises questions of morality and wealth as well. The film is incredibly timely, even though it’s set in the past. The Irishman is certainly one of the best Netflix original movies of 2019.

Someone Great

Anyone looking for a film on the lighter side should give Someone Great a try. This movie tells the story of Jenny (played by Gina Rodriguez) and Nate (played by Lakeith Stanfield), a couple that has decided to part ways after spending nearly a decade together.

Although centered around a heavy subject, Someone Great is an incredibly warm and uplifting movie. The movie drifts away from the traditional romantic comedy mold, as the audience knows from the start that the couple doesn’t end up together.

Despite the sad event, the film says a lot about independence and what it’s truly like to grow up in the modern world. Hilarious moments, brilliant acting, and powerful messages are just some of the reasons you should give Someone Great a chance.
