The Best Movie Lawyers Who Get the Job Done

May 1, 2023 by Casey Cartwright

The law is a complicated system that most cannot navigate independently. Because of this, they enlist the help of professionals and lawyers, and while not every lawyer is equally qualified, the ones that show up in films are a cut above the rest.

These great movie lawyers know how to get the job done, showing that the system can be fair if you know exactly how to navigate it.

Elle Woods

Elle Woods may not be your most traditional lawyer, but with her unconventional wit and experience, she can get her clients the fair representation they deserve. Legally Blonde may not showcase all the intricacies of being a lawyer, but it does a great job of making the system seem more approachable.

Rita Harrison Williams

I Am Sam is a hard film to watch, but it shines a great light on parental rights and family law, navigated swiftly by the cold and calculating lawyer, Rita Harrison Williams. As the film goes on, she learns to understand people better, and her performance shows just how important a strong family lawyer can be in even the toughest of cases.

Andrew Beckett and Joe Miller

Philadelphia is a heart-wrenching film that everyone needs to see twice. Once to see the magnificent work of director Jonathan Demme as he brings this story to life, and the second time to appreciate the work these lawyers put into their case. You need to bring your best arguments to trial when you sue a law firm for discrimination, and that’s exactly what Andrew Beckett and Joe Miller do, played by Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington, respectively.

Atticus Finch

One of the most well-known books and films of the last 100 years, To Kill a Mockingbird, has the unbeatable performance of Gregory Peck as Atticus Finch. In this story, Finch is on the side of justice and gives Brock Peters the defense that any defendant would want their lawyer to give them, but through it all, the jury still finds him guilty. Racial prejudice is everywhere, but the work of real and fictional depictions of defenders of civil rights has influenced the country to change dramatically since the origin of this story’s events.

Mickey Haller

Mickey Haller is a fictional character created by Michael Connelly in the 2005 novel The Lincoln Lawyer. Haller is a Los Angeles-based defense attorney who operates out of his Lincoln Town Car, hence his nickname, “The Lincoln Lawyer.” He is the paternal half-brother of LAPD Detective Harry Bosch.

Haller is a skilled and charismatic attorney who is known for his ability to get his clients off, no matter how guilty they may seem. He is also a complex and troubled man who is haunted by the death of his mother and his father's abandonment.

Haller has appeared in seven novels by Connelly, including The Lincoln Lawyer, The Brass Verdict, The Reversal, The Fifth Witness, The Gods of Guilt, The Crossing, and The Law of Innocence. He has also been portrayed in a film adaptation of The Lincoln Lawyer, starring Matthew McConaughey.

Haller is a popular character with readers and critics alike. He is a complex and compelling figure who is both a brilliant attorney and a deeply flawed human being. He is a reminder that even the best of us are capable of making mistakes, and that redemption is always possible.

It takes a lot of work and a strong team to get the job done in real life, but in the movies, one great lawyer is enough to get the job done. The movies display true events through a fictitious lens, but even so, if these lawyers existed in real life, they would be at the top of their field.
